Within the context of high graduates and youth unemployment, most universities are moving towards becoming entrepreneurial institutions with the exploitation of knowledge generated from research and development at the core of such paradigm shift. The imperative to drive student and graduate entrepreneurship has been growing steadily, Universities South Africa (USAF) through its initiative, Entrepreneurship Development in Higher Education (EDHE) hosted its maiden Studentpreneurship Intervarsity Competition 2019. University of Venda (UNIVEN) studentpreneurs participated in EDHE’s Studentpreneurship Intervarsity Competition.
On Wednesday, 18 September 2019, Promise Nyalungu and Simon Maumela represented UNIVEN in the national finals of the EDHE Studentpreneurship Intervarsity Competition in the following categories: Existing businesses-social impact and Innovative business idea. Both Nyalungu and Maumela are UNIVEN students.
The efforts of UNIVEN studentpreneurs under the stewardship of the University’s DVC Operations, Dr. Robert Martin saw UNIVEN receiving the “Fastest Growing Entrepreneurial University in South Africa”. An award which was received on behalf of the University by DVC Operations, Dr Robert Martin.
Mr Promise Nyalungu pitched under the category of ‘Existing Businesses-Social impact’ for his company StruuArtzz Entertainment.
Mr. Simon Maumela pitched under the category of ‘Innovative business idea’.
