It is an honour for the University of Venda’s Faculty of Science, Engineering and Agriculture to announce that Prof Yoshan Moodley, a B rated scientist, was elected to be a member of the Academy of Science of South Africa.

To be selected into the Academy, the member must have significant achievement in the pursuit, advancement or application of science and the member must be working and/or contributing to scientific/scholarly activities in the country to a significant extent. Prof Moodley has a publication H-index of 27 with over 4600 citations and articles published in high impact journals such as Nature.

He is an international acclaimed researcher, Specialising in Molecular Ecology, Evolutionary Genetics, Phylogeography, Microbial Evolution, Genomics, Population Genetics, Bioinformatics.

Prof Natasha Potgieter, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Agriculture, expressed her heartfelt congratulations to Prof Moodley upon his election as a member of the Academy of Science of South Africa. She commended his election as a well-deserved recognition of his exceptional contributions, highlighting the significant impact his work has had on both the academic community and society. On behalf of the University, Prof Potgieter extended her best wishes for Prof Moodley’s continued success, expressing confidence that his membership will further enhance the Academy’s mission and inspire positive change.
