The University of Venda (Univen) in association with Magwaba Bus Service, Thompson’s VW Motors, Porche-Villa hotel and Thavhani Mall hosted the Miss Univen Prize Giveaway at Rocco Mamas on Friday, 26 October 2018, Thavhani Mall. The event aimed at giving the newly crowned Mr and Miss Univen and their runner ups as well as the 2nd Prince and princess their deserved prizes.
Mr Univen, Vongani Dumela and Miss Univen, Thamathama Ratshili walked away with a weekend getaway courtesy of Porche-Villa hotel, R4000 each from the SRC, R1000 to share from Coca-Cola. SASKO gave 6 goodie bags to all the lucky participants, Thompson Motors offered a VW convoy for the winners and gave them 6 body warmers.
Vongani who is doing his second year in BCom Accounting says he is still overwhelmed by the achievement and feels there is more to come. “I feel like I am in heaven on earth, indeed God is great,” said the Mr Univen 2018/2019. Thamathama, a first-year student in Bachelor of Earth Sciences in Hydrology and Water Resources explained the feeling to be priceless. She expressed that she is grateful for the spotlight which will enable her to spread her wings and touch people’s lives.
Ms Tumi Hlapa, who is the incoming Minister of Arts and Culture, congratulated them. She further acknowledged distinguished guests and sponsors. Ms Hlapa told the audience to congratulate and celebrate with the newly crowned kings and queens.
