Mr Tshimangadzo Donald Mukwevho, a University of Venda (UNIVEN) postgraduate student has been awarded the prestigious all-expenses-paid ABE BAILEY travel bursary trip to the United Kingdom (UK). Mr Mukwevho holds an LLB degree from UNIVEN and is currently enrolled for a Master of Laws under the Faculty of Management, Commerce and Law. The focus of the ABE BAILEY Trust is leadership development, the bursaries are awarded to persons who are academically strong and have shown exceptional qualities of leadership and service, with a good track record not only on campus but also in a wider social context and who are able to function as part of a select and highly skilled group.
The Tour will officially commence in Cape Town on 22 November 2022. A Farewell Dinner will be arranged for the 24th of November 2022, to which past Bursars in the area and the Trustees of the ABE Bailey Trust will be invited. The Tour group will leave on 25 November 2022, on the evening flight from Cape Town International Airport. The official tour will end in Edinburgh on Saturday, 17 December 2022.
The ABE BAILEY travel opportunity was communicated to all UNIVEN staff and students on 01 April 2022. The International Relations and Partnerships (IRP) Office also convened the ABE BAILEY information session on 29 April at the UNIVEN Cafeteria Lapa. This information session was preceded by radio interviews conducted by the IRP Office on 28 April 2022. A total of 20 applications were received from UNIVEN students. Shortlisted candidates had to go through a competitive selection process wherein Mr Mukwevho emerged victorious.
Acting Director of International Relations and Partnerships, Dr Segun Obadire wished Mr Mukwevho well and continue to encourage all UNIVEN students and staff to apply for international opportunities emanating from the International Relations and Partnerships (IRP) Office and the wider UNIVEN community.
