The University of Venda (UNIVEN) is redefining the role of sport in higher education by using its annual winter and summer golf tournaments as a platform for social impact. These events, designed to raise funds for academically talented yet financially disadvantaged students, are much more than just opportunities to play golf—they are about creating pathways to success and transforming the lives of those who need it most.
In 2024, these tournaments raised an extraordinary R920 000, a milestone that directly helped 64 students, ensuring they receive their degree certificates. Looking ahead to 2025, UNIVEN is taking its commitment even further, aiming to support over 80 students with outstanding debts, allowing them to receive their degree certificates upon graduation. The next golf tournament, set for July 2025, will be another opportunity to elevate these transformative efforts.
Currently, 434 graduates still owe the university and have not yet received their degree certificates, with a total outstanding amount of R21,831,360. We aim to reduce this debt through the upcoming Winter and Summer golf tournaments.

Each year, financial assistance is given to academically gifted individuals who would otherwise be unable to complete their studies.
