Let me take this opportunity to express my gratitude to all of you for complying to the measures of the national lockdown. I further encourage you to continue adhering to the lockdown rules for the purpose of contributing to the Government’s endeavor to flatten the curve. I’m sure you are aware that about two weeks ago, the President of the Republic, Dr Cyril Ramaphosa announced the establishment of the Solidarity Fund for the purpose of mobilising resources from companies, organisations and individuals to combat the coronavirus pandemic. The funds will be used for amongst others, humanitarian relief to vulnerable households. In support of this effort, the President made a call on public office bearers, executives of companies and individuals to make a gesture to contribute to this national effort.
In response 10 the call, I have already made a pledge and a contribution to the Solidarity Fund the same day the President of the Republic of South Africa announced the establishment of this Solidarity Fund and will continue with my contributions, I therefore call on all staff of the University of Venda to contribute whatever amount to the Solidarity Fund. Please note that all donations to the fund are tax-deductible. I therefore thank you in advance for your contribution to the Solidarity Fund.
