Brighter future ahead – High school learners filing in the forms on the first day of the 2017 Univen careers exhibition

The University of Venda (Univen) and the Careers Exhibition and Information Association (CEIA) in partnership with the Department of Education in Vhembe District officially opened the 2017 Univen Careers Exhibition on Monday, 8 May 2017 at the University of Venda Auditorium. The exhibition will run until Friday, 12 May 2017.

The Dean of the School of Agriculture, Prof Godwin Mchau, officially opened the 2017 Univen Careers exhibition. In his official opening address, Prof Mchau expressed that career exhibitions offer the stakeholders and exhibitors a platform to showcase their programmes in order to attract the best learners. He also added that exhibitions offer the learners an opportunity to consider their career path and that is a way of building the country. “It is also an opportunity for learners to establish relationships with these institutions of higher learning,” he said.

“Entering the institution of higher learning is a serious process of transition for the learners because they find themselves in situations where they are faced with real life challenges. They need to make choices about their lives. Let us assist them to make better choices but also advise them that they have to meet the minimum admission requirements,” Prof Mchau added. Mchau further said that Mathematical Literacy and Life Orientation subjects should be cancelled at high schools because they are no longer important. He concluded by encouraging the exhibitors to fulfill prospective learners’ hopes and to also assist them with patience.

The Director Communications and Marketing, Mr Takalani Dzaga, appreciated the presence of the exhibitors and said that careers exhibition offers the learners an opportunity to grasp a much needed information that will help them in making informed career choices. He further told exhibitors to feel at home and to enjoy their stay. “Do not hesitate to ask where you don’t understand or when there are uncertainties.

“This is one of the best districts of Limpopo Province in terms of matric results and I believe that you will recruit the best out of it. The University of Venda has a reputation of organizing successful exhibitions with quality learners and you will not regret for having invested resources to participate in this exhibition. It is for this reason that most institutions of higher learning do not want to miss this exhibition,” concluded Mr Dzaga

Word of encouragement- Mr Gideon Ramulifho giving his message of support to the exhibitors

In his message of support, Mr Gideon Ramulifho, Curriculum Advisor at the Department of Education in Vhembe District, gave the exhibitors the warm welcome message. He said: “We appreciate your support for our learners and we thank you for seeing it as important to come all the way from various places and different Provinces.” Mr Ramulifho further said that career exhibition in rural areas should benefit the learners effectively and that will make our country a better place.

The Presidency: Mr Bonginkosi Dladlama giving word of encouragement to the participating stakeholders

CEIA President, Mr Bonginkosi Dladlama has encouraged the exhibitors not to despise the good work they are doing. He also encouraged the exhibitors to disseminate accurate information to the learners.

About 2460 learners from 28 schools attended the first day of the careers exhibition and more than 40 institutions were acknowledged during the official opening.
