The Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Prof Bernard Nthambeleni officially opened the recently completed fully equipped DSU building and Outdoor
Gym on Friday, 12 April 2024. The objective of the DSU is to facilitate access to higher education for students living with disabilities.
Prof Nthambeleni said the building should be well maintained for the benefit of students living with disabilities. He said as management they are
happy to see that the DSU is completed and functional with 19 offices, two boardrooms, assistive devices, two Computer labs, Exam room, Lecture
Hall, two Kitchens for staff and students, all in all, the building is fitted with the suitable furniture, and the list can go on and on. The assistive devices
and technology in these computer labs communicate the University’s commitment to inclusivity.
Director CHETL, Prof Lindiwe Mulaudzi and the Head DSU, Dr Tshifhiwa Mbuvha expressed joy as they receive the building. Students also witnessed
an important milestone of the opening ceremony of the 2nd phase of the Disabled Students Unit building.
The University offers a conducive environment to support and enhance learning for students with special needs. On behalf of students, the SRC
President, Mr John Ndaka thanked and commended the University Management for opening the DSU building to ensure that the support needed
is received.
The Project was funded by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET).
