President of the University of Venda (UNIVEN) Convocation, Mr Masa Sylvester Motadi and Deputy President, Mr Rudzani Mushweu pledged R20 000 each while Mr Moudy Mudzielwana of Tshikovha Green and Climate Change Advocates pledged R10 000 towards the University’s fund-raising initiatives, to assist financially needy students. These pledges happened during the Convocation Strategic Planning Session that is currently underway from today, Monday, 28 February until Wednesday, 02 March 2022 at Warmbaths Forever Resort, Bela Bela.
Mr Motadi said he has pledged this money as a way of encouraging other UNIVEN Graduates to contribute to the development of the University of Venda. All stakeholders of the university and businesspeople should be motivated by this pledge so that we can each contribute something in order for the executive committee of convocation to achieve strategic goals and objective.
Mr Mushweu expressed that “we have been there; we know the hardship and challenges faced by students daily. Our small contribution will go a long way in assisting students from deprived families and challenging other alumni to contribute.”
Mr Mudzielwana said growing up in rural environment and making it into the national mainstream economy was not easy and helping someone achieve a dream is more important than amassing own material. “The vision is to connect each student and graduates with their dreams,” he concluded.
Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Dr Bernard Nthambeleni expressed his appreciation to their generous contribution. A separate account will be created for these generous donations.
