Programmes Offered

The Department of Physics offers the following degree programmes

  1. Bachelor of Science in:
  • Physics and Mathematics
  • Physics and Chemistry

Entry requirements: Matric with passes in Mathematics, English, Physical Science and any other related subject.

  1. BSc Honours degree in Physics

Entry requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Physics with an average of 60% for the third-year level and a pass in Mathematics at the second-year level.

  1. MSc in Physics by research (dissertation)

Entry requirements: BSc Honours degree in Physics

  1. PhD in Physics

Entry requirements: An MSc in Physics or any other equivalent qualification.

Research

Research in the Department of Physics fall into the following major areas:

  • Renewable energy :Solar energy, Biomass
  • Computational Physics for Solar Energy Harvesting.
  • Materials and Nanomaterials for energy harvesting, photocatalysis and sensing applications.
  • Low Field Microwave Absorption in selected superconducting materials
