During the University of Venda (Univen) September Graduation ceremony that was held on Friday, 21 September 2018, Nosipho Ngangani, Head: Records and Archives Management in the Registrar’s Division, graduated her Bachelor of Education in Educational Management with a distinction.
Ms Ngangani joined Univen in June 2015 as Head: Records and Archives Management. That is when she decided to look at the courses that are offered by the institution. She said it was only honours in education that was relevant to her previous qualifications. She then took advantage of one of the benefits (Remission of fees) that were introduced to her during induction. Ms Ngangani said she followed all the necessary procedures and registered for Honours in Educational Management which was a two-year programme. She said the classes were attended late in the evening and on Saturdays to accommodate teachers.
“As I was interacting with teachers and deputy principals from various schools around Thohoyandou, I noticed a gap on the management of school records. I then decided to research on the management of records in public schools at Sibasa Circuit in Limpopo Province. After taking a decision I immediately checked
from internet to get researches that were done and published within the country. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get anything from South Africa but Nigeria and other countries,” she said. She expressed that she struggled a lot to get recent studies for her topic but she managed to complete her honours.
She highlighted that, for the distinction that she managed to get, it was not easy for her. From 8 am to 16:45h pm she would be at work and will immediately go to classes after work, at times, she would miss some of them but was encouraged to collect notes from her class mates. “As an employee there are set targets for your performance and meetings to attend. In some instances I will attend back to back meetings and writing a test in the afternoon. When I get home, I am expected to do home works and projects for my kids and cook for them. Planning, organizing and records keeping have assisted me a lot as I was not attending all the classes.”
In the year 2007, Ms Ngangani registered for a post graduate diploma in records and archives management with the University of KwaZulu-Natal, a 150 credit programme with mini research in information users and use: investigating the use of information by anti-North West community members in Carletonville. She expressed that she strived for the best and received an award as the best student of that year. She said her aim is to register for Masters degree in the year 2019.
